With the arrival of summer, the threat of military conflict looms over Jericho.
A former knight of Tiefanue (and paladin of Roland) named Sir Carac Bardue has inherited great wealth from the deaths of his peers in the campaign against Styphon the Black Dragon. A pious follower of Light, he has used these funds to build a keep, buy an army and is quickly gaining influence over the lands to the north of Jericho. Even the once free town of Crucible has joined his cause. He has sworn to protect them and drive out the darkness that slowly creeps westward from Berphaunt – the same kingdom which now rules over Jericho. That means Jericho is now in his crosshairs, along with her sister towns Mea Visa and Galen’s Honour. He will wage holy crusade against these settlements and claim their resources and riches for his cause or will die a martyr doing so. Many have already joined him. Many more will come.
But this is not the Jericho of old.
Tens of thousands of veteran soldiers from Berphaunt’s military have taken defensive positions along the former curtain towns to protect them. The magic of the most powerful Mage’s Guild on the continent is at Jericho’s disposal. Thieves’ guilds stand ready to wage a guerrilla war from the forests. At the head of Jericho’s noble court sits a woman favoured by the dark goddess of vengeance herself. This time, Darkness is a weapon for Jericho, not an enemy and you can be assured it will be used. This is how King Louis fights a war and he is very good at it.
Berphaunt is not known for being strategically or militarily timid, their endless wars with Clan Sprawn and Duvain have demonstrated that well enough. King Louis will not allow this paragon of the Light to hang above their newly acquired settlements like a Sword of Damocles. A pre-emptive strike is almost certain. Yet the wise might wonder – will this conflict remain an isolated religious spat between border towns, or will it spiral into a global proxy war between Berphaunt and Tiefanue?
While this pot boils over, Jericho’s leyline troubles continue. The Conclave have come up with a plan to repair the magical leyline long term and they need to test it. Let the soldiers and clerics play wargames with each other like screaming children, the magi have a leyline to save!
Welcome to our second weekend event of 2015!
As the weather warms up, events at Underworld Jericho start to become more comfortable – even if it rains! Feel free to make use of the swimming hole if temperatures rise and remember to bring lots of water! Weather in the spring is hard to predict, so please prepare for both hot and cold, wet and dry.
A few points below, most of which are continuations of announcements we made last event.
- As we mentioned last event, Sundays at events will be more “low key” than previous seasons. We will still be running adventures but the larger plotlines will be shifted to Saturday. Expect less big battles and more rp and adventures for smaller groups. And maybe more giant bees if you’re lucky.
- The event will end at 2pm and from 2pm to 3pm some of the shapers will be outside of NPC camp to talk to players face to face. If you have comments, concerns or simply want to thank a shaper for something they ran, drop by the entrance of NPC camp and let us know. Depending on turnout we may have to limit your time to 5-10 minutes of feedback.
- A “Shaper Office” will be set up just inside the entrance to NPC camp inside a large tent. The purpose will be to allow players visiting NPC to speak directly to a shaper without having to interrupt the NPCs who are preparing for roles. We’ll try to have a shaper in that tent at all times, day and night, to answer questions, write tags or help in any way they can.
- We’ll be holding noble court every event this season. The noble court will be at noon on Saturday. For this event the court will be held in town center, near the old “hospital” building. We’re moving locations so that every player can watch comfortably.
We’ll update this post with further information if it comes.
See you all in Jericho!
