Underworld LARP Jericho Presents: The Asylum Heretica

The dragon Ixiad, called by some as the Aracha’Draghoul, has been trapped for an eternity in a world called the Far Realm. A place where only the most horrific and nightmarish creatures call home. She was trapped inadvertently by a planular lock, hidden far beneath the town of Jericho. Now the lock itself has become damaged and Ixiad has clawed her way, once again, into the realm of mortals. She is what the Nightmares fear and she is coming home.

Spreading her vast web of power over the town she claims is hers, she has released a horde of nightmarish power she called “aid”. Red sparks of True Fae power skitter around the forests of Jericho like spiders, transforming the mortals into frightening hybrids of man and monster. Infusing all with this power, she has tasked them with a single simple goal – enter the prison called “Asylum Heretica”, find the lock, and obliterate it.

On All Hallows’ the gates of the Asylum Heretica will open, with its prison cells designed with purpose to trap and hold only the most powerful of villains. Those villains who were once the most fearsome and terrible monsters in the known lands. Now that title belongs to you.

You, the monsters of Jericho, shall enter these strange prison cells, each their own pocket plane of unique design made specifically to accommodate their captives; some bending the very nature of magic and reality as you know it. Find those that would dare threaten what you worked so hard to obtain, and terrorize them.

Let the hunters become the hunted.

Welcome to Underworld Jericho’s 2016 All Hallows event! For 20 years we’ve been providing southern Ontario with only the greatest, spookiest and bloodiest Halloween event this country has ever seen. This is our flagship event and we’ve waited all year to host it. This event is being led by both owners, David and Ted and our current lead shaper, Kyle. The three of us will be writing some epic plotlines on what is traditionally the most exciting event of the year for us. We’re not just writing all combat either. Expect to see a plethora of creepy roleplaying stories and roles, puzzle adventures and crafty think mods. Additionally we’ll be managing Shapers and NPC’s, and overseeing everything that goes out our Shaper camp, to ensure we’re all on the same page of fairness and game balance.

On this All Hallows’ we pull out all the stops. Blood, gore, masks, costumes and, of course, a few dozen of the scariest stories and plotlines that will leave you shaking in your greeves.

Now, we’ve been running an All Hallows’ event for 20 years now. While I wouldn’t say we’re bored of the typical Undead or Demonic horde Hide-Run-Hide, we are firm believers in mixing things up now and again to inspire change and relevancy. So prepare to be mixed.

This All Hallows’ we’re giving you the opportunity to be monsters.

The Asylum Heretica is an ancient prison used to contain some of the most vile and horrific villains the lands of Maud’Madir has ever seen. Creatures so powerful and so evil that the combined forces of the entire Church of Light could not defeat them permanently – so they were imprisoned. Not in a cell made of stone or iron but each in their pocket world, designed with purpose to hold and restrain the worst of the worst. It was intended that these worlds, devoid of all life, would hold these prisoners indefinitely and, for all intents and purposes, it worked. However like many prisons, getting out is impossible, but getting in… that’s not as difficult. Those captives inside couldn’t escape but they did find means to draw others in against their will. Slowly, over the centuries, mortals and monsters found themselves dragged from their own plane and forced into the Asylum. Once trapped they did the only thing they could do. They rebuilt and survived.

Inside the Asylum Heretica, these pocket worlds may be fictitious but the inhabitants that live there are real. Whatever physical and magical restrictions placed on the world affected them (and you) as well. In a world without life, they may all be undead. Or a world without sin, they may be be trusting and naive. It is up to you, dedicated citizens of Jericho, to enter these strange worlds and take, bargain, steal, or conquer whatever you need. All the while watching out for the prisoners it was designed to contain.

Fair warning friends, while many times this Halloween you will find yourselves engorged in monstrous power, you would be wise to remember that it is still All Hallows’. The town of Jericho proper is rarely safe on a good day. Be warned and stay on your toes for your actions still have consequences and all the monstrous abilities in the world may not save you from certain horrors and other citizens. You still might have to RUN-HIDE.

Firepits and “safe” areas

Halloween events are generally dangerous times in Jericho. The veil between the Deadlands and the lands of living thins, allowing dangerous creatures to slip through. The Forest Spirit Sylvanna has extended her protection to the area around each camp that has a pre approved fire pit, plus town center’s fire. Although you may be attacked by weaker monsters when near these fires, more powerful creatures will be kept at bay. This should allow you to warm up and allow you to eat some hot food. This is a NOT a promise. It is a general rule. It is not an escape from every terror. Should you anger the wrong monster(s) they might not care about Sylvanna’s retribution. Be warned and always on your toes, even when you’re warming them by the fire pit.

Cold weather, darkness and safety

LARPing in late October is considerable different than LARPing in August, especially due to temperature. However, with some preparation it can still be just as enjoyable. Nights will be cold and it may even rain. We have written a primer on how to LARP in cold weather on our blog:

If you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation, please come to NPC camp and talk to our medical marshals. We can provide you with a warm fire to sit at out of game if you need it.

This event will be a new moon, that means it will be very dark at night even if the skies are clear. Bring a safety light (they are red, not white)!

Emporium and Tavern!

The Tavern and Emporium, located just north of us at our neighbouring farm, is fully opened and ready to serve you in all your needs. They have a fully stocked menu of hot foods, hot drinks and a fancy heated patio. Additionally the Emporium is open for all your last minute costume and larp needs. Weapons, makeup, fake blood, masks, and more. All yours for reasonable copper prices.

Here there be monsters

This event has a special “Monster Template” option for your character to become Halloween monsters! You are not required to take a template OOG or IG. We leave the choice up to you. Some of the red sparks of monstrous energy will forcefully merge with your spirit (giving you the opportunity to play a templated monster without worrying what your God/Dragon/Friends might think) or some can be resisted (If you don’t want a template at all.) We want to maximise the amount of fun you can have this All Hallows’ by giving you the IG reasons to do so. But again, if you don’t want it at all, you don’t need to take it.

NPC Shifts

NPC shifts are active this event like a usual event, please sign up via the database. We’re also taking regular weekend NPCs as well.

Want to take an NPC shift with your camp? NO PROBLEM – for this event only, instead of signing up for an NPC shift, with a group you can contact the shaper team at jerichoshapers2016@gmail.com and give them a list of 5 or more players who’d like to take a single shift together. The shapers will let you know if that shift is available for a group, or will ask you to pick another. If the shift is open, simply show up with your group in NPC camp like normal. Shapers will check their list and confirm you’re all present and then send that information to logistics post-event to ensure frags aren’t deducted.
